The world is fractured, and it’s not healing anytime soon.
Is the age of globalization over? It certainly seems so. Only a few short years ago, we were celebrating the notion of trade as a unifying force for cooperation. And while that vision might have been a little too starry-eyed even at the time, it’s certainly a fading one now. Call it “the Great Fracturing” — which happens to be part of the title of a new book by Abishur Prakash, CEO and founder of The Geopolitical Business and self-dubbed “Mr. Geopolitics.” He returns to the podcast to review events of the last few months, and the picture isn’t pretty. It’s one of ever-growing conflict, including two hot wars, a flurry of punitive tariffs and fears about the intentions of China in Taiwan and Southeast Asia. (And don’t forget the dangers of artificial intelligence.) Is this simmering pot going to boil over? “It’s not a question of if,” says Prakash. “It’s a question of when.” And when will the world return to something akin to the post-World War II era of international trade?
