Podcast | The High Price of Economic Uncertainty

May 16, 2025

High tariffs are a major concern for traders, but the bigger problem is just figuring out what they’re going to be.

Global commerce is, by its very nature, hugely complex. Now add to that the uncertainty caused by the ever-changing trade policies of the Trump Administration. How can supply chains respond? On this episode, we look into how they’re coping at a time when the rules of doing business are anything but clear, with the help of economist Daniel Altman, publisher of the High Yield Economics newsletter and creator of the Baseline Probability Index, which measures the bottom-line impact of U.S. foreign investment. He also offers a corrective to the May U.S. jobs report, noting that it’s based in part on a surge in logistics and warehousing employment that might not be sustainable if trade declines. The shrinking federal workforce is yet another a problem. How will the economy fare in the remainder of this year? Confusion reigns. Hosted by Bob Bowman, Editor-in-Chief of SupplyChainBrain.
